Excursion Day for Grades 1–5: A Journey into Nepal’s Cultural Heritage

Learning doesn’t only happen within the four walls of a classroom — it also comes alive when students step out to experience the world around them. This week, our young BernHardtians from Grades 1 to 5 embarked on a wonderful Excursion Day designed to connect them with Nepal’s rich cultural heritage and the timeless wisdom of our ancestors.

The day was filled with excitement, curiosity, and hands-on discovery as students explored traditional items and materials once used by our forefathers in their daily lives. From handcrafted pots and wooden tools to woven baskets and clay utensils, every object told a story — a story of innovation, simplicity, and harmony with nature.

Guided by their teachers, the children observed how people in earlier generations lived and worked with the resources available around them. They learned how families relied on handmade materials, sustainable practices, and community cooperation to build a meaningful life long before modern technology existed.

The excursion was more than a simple field trip — it was an interactive classroom on wheels. Students were encouraged to ask questions, touch, and experience these artifacts up close. Teachers explained how each item served a purpose and how these practices reflected respect for the environment and a strong sense of togetherness.

Many students were amazed to discover how everyday items like clay pots kept water naturally cool, or how straw mats and bamboo baskets were made entirely by hand. The activity inspired appreciation for the artistry and resourcefulness of our ancestors. It also helped students understand the importance of preserving traditional knowledge and valuing the roots that connect us to our culture.

In the spirit of experiential learning, our teachers emphasized how such field-based activities nurture both curiosity and empathy. When children see history through real objects rather than pictures, it becomes more relatable and memorable. For many students, this excursion sparked a new interest in learning about their grandparents’ stories, local crafts, and regional traditions.

By the end of the day, laughter and excitement filled the air as the buses returned to school. The young explorers shared what they had seen and learned, proudly talking about the objects that fascinated them the most. It was clear that the experience had left a lasting impression — not just as an outing, but as a meaningful step toward understanding the value of Nepal’s cultural identity.

At BernHardt, we believe that true education goes beyond academics. It involves nurturing awareness, respect, and gratitude for the people and traditions that shaped who we are today. The Excursion Day for Grades 1–5 was a beautiful reminder that history lives not just in books, but in the objects, stories, and values passed down through generations.

We look forward to many more learning adventures that inspire our students to explore, appreciate, and celebrate the beautiful heritage of our nation. 🌿📚✨
